Below are some comments from young people about the POS centre and the services it
offers:
Lughano Banda, Mwambetania Village
Before this youth-friendly centre was set up here in Karonga, most people in my age,
i.e. young people, had no place to go to get advice on sensitive issues on sexual
and reproductive health without fear of prejudice. The establishment of this centre
is therefore ideal for giving us a better future, as we can get the help we need
here without being judged.
Limbani Kamanga, MwangandaYouth Club
I am very pleased about the creation of this space, as we previously did not have
good access to sexual and reproductive health services because public hospitals were
not youth-friendly. In the long term, this will play a crucial role in reducing unplanned
and early pregnancies.
Asiatu Mwale, Karonga
The number of unplanned pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections had been
rising for a long time. The opening of this centre will address this challenge, as
young people will now have easy access to family planning methods and learn more
about sexual and reproductive health.
The POS Centre, which opened on 5 June, is the first protected space where young
people can access youth-friendly health services ( YFHS ) and information on sexual
and reproductive health and rights (SRHR ) in a confidential environment.
In the few months since its opening, the POS Centre has already become an established
meeting place for young people in Karonga.
